Our History
Pascoe Vale United Cricket Club is an organisation dedicated to promoting and facilitating cricket activities for its members and the local community.
We started our existence in 1960 as the team of Pascoe Vale West Methodist Church in the Essendon, Broadmeadows & Keilor Churches Association, playing at Lebanon Reserve in Strathmore.
When the Methodist Church evolved into the Uniting Church, we became the Pascoe Vale Uniting Church team, which eventually changed to become our current name.
We have had several home bases since the early days at Lebanon Reserve. We moved to JP Fawkner Reserve in Oak Park, then to Mutton Reserve in Fawkner, to Wallace Reserve in Glenroy and then to our current home in ATC Cook Reserve in Glenroy.
The main differences between cricket in the early days and today include the following: overs used to be 8 balls; there was no limited over (i.e. one-day) cricket; there were no helmets; the games were played on hessian mats that had to be pegged down and removed each match day; there was no heat rule; there were no close-in fielding restrictions; and, most games were played within a relatively short distance.
It's significant to note that the club has managed to exist for so long without merging and without moving too far from its original home.
The club continues to welcome players of any calibre and from any background.
